Patient M
Mrs. M is middle aged lady who lives in Kempston. She is on 8 regular tablets and a number of colostomy-related products. Mrs. M was ordering her colostomy products through a mail order company. Basically, she would telephone and request her items from the mail order company who would then deliver to her by courier. The GP would then send a prescription to the mail order company for the item(s) delivered.
Mrs. M was experiencing a poor level of service from the mail order company and was sometimes receiving delayed orders because the mail order company said it had not received prescriptions from the GP surgery. This was a logistical problem which was causing Mr. and Mr. M a great deal of inconvenience.
Mrs M’s GP contacted us to see if we could help her. We spoke to her and the GP and informed them both that, firstly we were able to obtain the same colostomy products and, secondly we were more than happy to deliver the items to her home.
As Mrs. M was housebound we visited her at her home and spent a full hour listening and talking to her about her medication; how best to take it; how we could help her and what needed to happen in order to improve her request and supply of colostomy products.
We then discussed her case with the GP and we decided to arrange a repeat “BATCH” prescription for all her tablets and colostomy products (please see under the [Repeat Prescription] section of this website for more information about repeat “BATCH” prescriptions).
On the initial visit to Mrs. M’s home, we were able to obtain a tally of all her tablets. Mrs. M was finding that some of her tablets were out of synch and were running out quicker than others. Once we had a complete tally of all of all her colostomy products we were able to work out what she needed in order to be “lined up”. To make life easier for Mrs. M, we are able to issue her with 2 months supply of her regular medication and colostomy products. Mrs. M now only needs to telephone us a Wootton Pharmacy every 2 months in order to order her prescription from us, which we deliver to her the next day.
Patient O
Mr. O is an elderly man who lives in Wootton. He has a regular repeat prescription which we collect for him from one of the Kempston GP surgeries. A week before Christmas, Mr. O ordered his repeat prescription for his regular catheters and telephoned us at Wootton Pharmacy to inform us that he had submitted his repeat request and that he would like us to collect the prescription for him. Even before we had collected the prescription we placed an order for his catheters. The supplier said that the catheters would be delivered after Christmas. Upon checking our pharmacy computer record for Mr. O, we were able to determine that he would actually run out of his catheters before Christmas.
Here at Wootton Pharmacy we go that little extra distance in order to help. After expressing our dismay at the supplier, we decided to do the next best thing. That’s right; we called the Managing Director of the company that manufactured the catheters! After explaining the situation he was very understanding and also very disappointed that a major UK appliance supplier was unable to have one of his products delivered to us before Christmas. Within a few minutes he had arranged for a courier to deliver the product direct to Wootton Pharmacy, which we received the very next day.
We collected the prescription from the surgery and dispensed the item for Mr. O without him even knowing the lengths we had gone to in dispensing his prescription.
At Wootton Pharmacy we go that extra mile so that you don’t have to. If you are experiencing difficulty in obtaining a colostomy, dressing, or appliance, then please talk to ARIF or RAJ. We will do our best for you.
