When Wootton Pharmacy opened we did very few prescription deliveries at that time. We helped patients where we could, particularly the housebound. We often delivered prescriptions during the lunch hour or after work.

When ARIF and RAJ looked at how we could improve our delivery service we concluded that the best option was to employ a delivery driver and purchase a delivery van, which we did. We also investigated what was being offered by other pharmacies, but more importantly we listened to what our patients were saying about what they actually needed.

In doing so, we began to appreciate that many more patients than we originally thought could benefit from our free prescription delivery, not just the housebound patients:

• The elderly, who used to drive but could not now
• Mothers who were able to leave their prescription with us but needed to leave immediately to collect their children from school
• People who used bicycles but found it difficult in bad weather
• Ill patients
• Busy house wives with a hundred and one things to do and who could not find the time to collect their prescription
• Busy husbands who remembered their repeat prescription was ready to collect from Wootton Pharmacy, but could not find the time to do so
• Young people who did not drive and who lived in surrounding villages where there was poor public transport
• Could it be YOU?

Mr. H is a middle aged asthmatic man who lives on the out skirts of Wootton. Before he started coming to us at Wootton Pharmacy, he was paying a taxi fare to get to his GP surgery in Kempston in order to hand in his repeat prescription request. He then had to pay for a second taxi fare to collect the repeat prescription and to go to the nearest pharmacy and then back home. We were able to help Mr. H by ordering and collecting his repeat prescription and then delivering it free to his doorstep. Mr. H has saved a considerable amount of money.

Rather than meeting patients “half way,” at Wootton Pharmacy, we aim to meet their complete needs. Wootton Pharmacy now currently offers a FREE prescription delivery service to the following areas in Bedford:

            -Wootton
